Situated on Ditmars Boulevard, Waltz-Astoria is an expanded coffee shop adorned with art. But it is more than a coffee shop and a lovely little hang out by day. Beyond coffee, they offer a good selection of wine and beer. The cake portions are hefty and sweet. The live music, mostly of the adult contemporary, classical and jazz varieties, and other entertainment offered happen regularly and often pack the seated house. Check the listings. The staff are friendly, but a bit overworked on busy music nights. Go around back for the secret backdoor entrance directly to the revamped coffee bar. – Wynne Boelt
