Maxim is one of the most popular cinemas in Helsinki, well-known for its soft, wide seats. Maxim's two screens feature mainstream blockbusters, arty films and cult movies alike. Maxim was the second cinema in Finland to receive a THX rating. This is also the main cinema involved with the Helsinki International Film Festival. When the festival tickets come on sale, the lines go around the block. Maxim sometimes has special screenings, including for instance horror series shown in the middle of the night, or classics shown during the Helsinki Festival in the summer. The box office opens one hour before the first screening.
