This is where you can see the most impressive row of windmills in Spain, made famous by Cervantes in his novel, Don Quixote. The views over the plain of La Mancha from here are magnificent. Come during the Saffron Festival (26-28 October) and you'll see how this valuable spice and colorant is extracted from the flower, as well as demonstrations of folklore and wheat being milled. Alongside the windmills there's a castle where medieval battles between Moors and Christians are re-enacted every year (11-13 August). The Romans knew this town as Consaburum. It has a museum of archeology and ethnology (+34 925 475 731), a hotel, and a hostel. The public bus leaves Toledo from the Avenida Castilla-La Mancha for the 62km journey.
