The Rocks covers George, Cumberland and Argyle Streets, and Hickson Road. A top tourist drawcard, the Rocks Village offers shoppers an eclectic mix of the latest in creative Australian designs combined with an historical journey back to the beginnings of Sydney. This is the place to buy Australian-made souvenirs ranging from unique jewellery and ceramics to t-shirts and boomerangs. The weekend market, set up under the eaves of the harbour bridge on George Street, offers handcrafted gifts, whilst the Argyle Centre offers local and overseas fashions. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants here, some by the harbour offering great views, others tucked away in the winding back streets boasting cosy courtyards. The Rocks Village is also home to some of Sydney’s oldest pubs, such as the Lord Nelson and the Hero of Waterloo. The Museum of Contemporary Art on George Street offers a respite to those weary of shopping in the shape of some very modern artistic interpretations.
