Marchioness de Selva Nevada had decided to reward her son, the Count of Buenavista, with nothing less than a palace. The architect was none other than Manuel Tolsá, responsible for many of the beautiful Neo-classical constructions found in the city. A double delicately-outlined curve frames the main façade in the style of European palaces. The interior design is even more impressive, where the architect, perhaps carried away by his own personal tastes, incorporated high paladin pillars. But what distinguishes this building from many of its contemporaries is the elegant elliptical-shaped patio. The palace also houses the San Carlos Museum inaugurated in 1966.
