There are quite a few sights worth seeing in close proximity to Bonn. Sometimes they are quite hidden, like the Wasserburg Schloss Gudenau castle. It lies south west of Villip, not far from Bad Godesberg. This castle was built in the year 1200 and belonged to the Counts' Estate of Drachenfels from the 15th century onwards. During the Second World War, the lovely four wing castle was destroyed. Today the castle has been cleaned and restored and is under private ownership. Unfortunately, it is only possible to see the lovely gardens as part of a tour.
