Visitors will find the architecture of this mansion quite impressive. Within the profuse baroque ornamentation, the figure of an infant in one corner stands out. Once through the main entrance, you come across tranquil patios and rooms that have changed little since the end of the nineteenth; they still retain their original furnishings. The mansion was formally owned by Count Heras y Soto, one of the original signatories of the Act of Independence of 1821 and exhibits the original head of the Angel of Independence, which toppled off of its column during the 1957 earthquake. Mexico City's historical archive, with documents dating from 1522 to 1928, is also stored here.
