Guglielmo Marconi, the scientist, carried out his experiments with radio waves in Bologna. He was born in Via IV Novembre, but spent his youth in the monumental Villa Griffoni. His first experiments with radio transmissions took place in the Villa in 1895. The Villa was built at the end of the 17th Century by the Griffoni family and now belongs to the Marconi Foundation. It is not far from the Mausoleum where Marconi was buried in 1941.
