Waikuku beach is a popular summertime hang out for campers, surfers and swimmers alike. It is one of the few North Canterbury beaches to have a surf life saving patrol, and therefore is a much safer alternative to some of the more isolated beaches on the North Canterbury coast. Waikuku has beautiful golden sand, and the pine plantations that line the dunes close to the shore provide some shelter from the northwest winds. A very popular surf beach, Waikuku teems with activity during the summer months, and there are changing rooms, toilets and shops to cater for the beach-loving masses.
