Cenote, or sinkhole, diving has become popular with divers seeking hard core adventure. Cozumel’s biggest cenote is inland just north of Parque Chankanaab. The cave starts out as a narrow, deep canyon with an average depth of 50 feet and then becomes wide, dark and low with a depth of more than 3000 feet. This is not a dive to undertake alone or if you are a beginner. You must be accompanied by a certified dive master who has plenty of experience since accidents during cenote cave diving can be very dangerous.
