This ship was deliberately sunk by the Mexican government in an attempt to create an artificial reef that would lure some of the tourist traffic away from the natural coral reefs thereby preserving them. Its addition to the Parque Marino de Cozumel was mired in controversy as many worried the ship would unbalance the delicate reef ecology. The 184 feet long, 33 feet wide ship rests in 80 feet of water between the Chankanaab Reef and Tormentos Reef.
