Flowing from Pierce Reservoir to Merdeka Bridge is Singapore's longest river - the Kallang River. Once the victim of pollution from industrial and farming activities, the river is today a popular spot for water sports, with the Kallang Watersports Centre providing facilities for waterskiing, canoeing, dragon boat racing and the like. Sunbathers and picnickers head for the beautiful sandy beaches at the Kallang Riverside Park, which is dotted with Casuarinas, palm trees and gazebos that provide respite from the blazing sun.
