Moss Beach of San Mateo County, has been a rich site of fossils and rare species of marine life. After years of marine biologists and conservationists flocking along its shoreline and reefs, the San Mateo County authorities in 1969, declared the tide pool at the Beach as a reserve. Tourists visiting San Francisco can make a quick trip to this landmark reserve and enjoy a docent-led tour. Owing to the variety of natural habitats within the Reserve, a rich biodiversity can be found. Visitors are advised to check the tide timetable for Moss Beach before planning a trip. Marine life at the Reserve can be observed only at low tide. Hours of operation can be checked at the website of the San Mateo County Parks Department.
