This is one of the few areas in Singapore with the last remaining stretches of mangrove swamp. It is now designated as a bird and nature reserve and mudflats have been created, with bird hides and sluice gates to preserve the mangroves and wetland wildlife. Raised boardwalks allow you to observe mangrove ecology at close range without getting your shoes all muddy. Look out also for freshwater plants, wildlife like mudskippers, water snakes and fiddler crabs, and listen to the melodious twitters of the birds.
