This 1.3 million acre biosphere reserve boasts lagoons, tropical forests, mangrove swamps and barrier reefs and is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including crocodiles, flamingos, tropical blooms and manatees. To reach the reserve, Cozumel visitors take the 30-minute ferry ride to Playa del Carmen on the mainland followed by an 1.5-hour bus ride to Tulum. Tours can be made in the town of Tulum with the non-profit Amigos de Sian Ka'an. Tour packages start at USD48 per person.
