This modern Franciscan church (dating from 1955), designed by the Italian architect Antonio Barluzzi, was built to commemorate the meeting of Mary with her cousin Elizabeth (Luke 1:39-56). To get to the church, walk up the hill from the Virgin's Fountain in the lower village. From the top you will have a fine view of Ein Kerem. It holds Italianate frescoes and beautiful mosaic floors. The gift shop offers rosaries, postcards, and recordings of liturgical music by local monastery choirs.
