This is one of Jerusalem’s oldest synagogues in use. The Karaites are a Jewish sect of a few thousand members, who follow biblical customs only, and do not accept the Talmud. The synagogue is hung with dozens of silver oil lamps. The floor is carpeted. Worshipers remove their shoes before entering. Note that the gateposts have the Ten Commandments written there rather than the usual Jewish mezusah. To see the synagogue and learn more about this small Jewish community, ring the bell by the gate.
