In February, oceans of steaming clam chowder (white and red) are prepared on the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz by more than 50 teams who compete for the right to say that theirs is the best. While waiting for the results, you can watch the teams scramble through the preparation. (You will pick up some tips on chowder preparation, but don't expect to discover any secret ingredients). Or, as the chowdery aroma wafts through the air, you can enjoy the best of the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, a local attraction since 1907. It is a great way to work up an appetite. Admission is free, some vendors may accept credit cards.
