Upstairs in the Galleria of the Christchurch Arts Centre, Art Works offers a fascinating diversion from the austerity of contemporary art. With its bright and engaging content, the Gallery features folk and decorative art made exclusively by hand by seventeen local artists. If you dig around you can find some surprises, from icons to hand-painted ties, to sharply detailed watercolours of fishing flies. You can take away a painting for as little as NZD24, and there is usually an artist at work on site.
