Don't expect mints on your pillow at Walnut Forest Motel. It is right off the highway, but far enough away that the roar of cars is kept to a minimum. A large golden lion bares its fangs in the courtyard between two lush trees wrapped in Christmas lights and an ornate, miniature lighthouse. Wrought-iron stakes, painted to match the doors, outline the large pool. Walnut Forest is not recommended for business travelers, considering its lack of facilities, but this 15-year old motel has character, and it is cheap. Truckers get their own parking lot out back.
