The Astor hostels were established in 1974 as the first independent youth hostels in London. They are aimed at 18-35 year olds. The Hyde Park hostel is the newest one and has mainly dormitory-style rooms for up to ten people, although there are some smaller twin-bedded rooms. It's in a great area, close to Hyde park itself, to Kensington Palace and Gardens, to Portobello Road, and to Paddington station from where it is just a 15 minute journey to Heathrow airport on the Heathrow Express. There are lots of pubs, cafes, restaurants and cinemas in the area and it's a popular place for visitors from all over.
