On the stark plains of Waipara, the grand Mud House building is impossible to miss. Situated right beside the main highway between Christchurch and Kaikoura, near the small farming township of Amberley, the winery has a fine restaurant, with an impressive outdoor-dining area. All wines are produced from estate-grown grapes, which were first planted in 1994. Pinot Noir is the flagship of the estate. White wines include Methode Traditionelle, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, and small quantities of Viognier. The winemaker Mark Rattray boasts a long list of medal-winning wines to his credit.
