Similar in design to the Eiffel Tower but at 138 meters (453 feet) distinctly smaller, the Funkturm (radio tower) is West Berlin's answer to East Berlin's TV Tower. Built in 1926, it is also older and better looking than its counterpart. The restaurant, 65 meters (213 feet) high, offers fine German nouvelle cuisine. And despite the relatively high prices, this place is extremely popular with both tourists and locals - so it's best to book in advance. The views are sensational and quickly make you forget the money you had to pay for the elevator. The smoked duck breast with sauerkraut is a fine example of a classic dish revamped for modern tastes. The lamb with herb sauce, Kenyan beans and potato gratin is also worth a try.
