Sweets made of crystallised fruit coated with unrefined sugar or their own nectar are a very important part of typical Mexican gastronomy. These delicacies are offered in most international fairs as part of the country's culinary tradition, for they are easily transported, and the sugar they contain acts as a preservative that allows them to keep for months.. In the Agualapa neighbourhood, in the town of Santa Cruz Acapixtla, this Crystallised Candy Fair takes place very year during the second week in July. The exhibit presents more than 40 varieties of sweets, and is accompanied by contests, popular dances and sports events. Admission is free, and public parking is available.
