Markets in Salzburg have a long tradition. The oldest was mentioned before 1500 in the City Chronicle. There existed also a so-called Christmas market selling dolls, sweets, and old and second hand goods. Nowadays this pre-Christmas market is situated on the Cathedral Square. There are wax objects, wooden toys, glassware, pewter dishes, ceramics etc. Don´t forget to put on warm clothes and enjoy tea, punch or mulled wine if you don't want to buy anything. The last three days of the market have shorter hours.
