Join the festivities as streets are cordoned off and businesses and banks close in honor of this holiday. Dia de la Raza is the Mexican version of Columbus Day and celebrates Columbus's "discovery" of Mexico on October 12th. Parades will fill the main streets of downtown with floats created in the shapes of Columbus's three ships and other themes. Carnival rides and open-air concerts dot the city, then at dusk, fireworks will begin at the bay.
