The name Chor Bazaar was mistakenly coined by the British as a corruption of the original Shor Bazaar, meaning 'noisy marketplace'. Akin to Heera Panna Shopping Centre, Chor Bazaar is now a bustling market selling a range of old and new furniture and exotic little things. Popular with the tourists are the cozy shops selling kitschy antiques and souvenirs, located on Mutton Street. Chor Bazaar is also one of the few places in Mumbai where one can still find old 78rpm LPs. Haggling over the quoted rate is a must, but not necessary. It all comes down to perceived value. The best way to get to Chor Bazaar is from J.J Hospital. Ask anyone for directions.
