If you really want to feel like a Parisian insider, do your shopping at the Marché des Enfants-Rouges, a little-known neighborhood market in the north Marais. Built in 1612, this covered market has the usual cheese, fruit, vegetables, fish, and flower stalls, but, unlike most markets, also has a wine bar (with bio wines for those so inclined), and several take-away eateries of various ethnicities. Large communal tables are scattered around the perimeter of the market, so you can sit and enjoy your goodies right away. A mellow – and tasty – spot for lunch, especially on a summer’s day. -Barbara Diggs
