Cardiff has many private taxi companies. Some have minibuses and special vehicles for the disabled. Most will do airport runs as well as short trips around the city. A taxi from Cardiff Airport to the city centre costs around £15 and may be booked in advance. City centre taxi ranks are situated at the central train station and in Greyfriars Road, opposite the New Theatre, and next to the Hilton hotel. At weekends it is always best to telephone and book in advance, and allow plenty of time for your journey. Delays are common at peak times. Taxis accept cash only. Fares are based on a fixed charge of around £2 and then a cost depending on time and distance. Expect an average journey in the city to cost around £5.
