Travelling by bus in the U.K. used to be very confusing. It was once said that the reason so many elderly folk travelled by bus was because it had taken them a lifetime to learn the timetables! In Bath, however, every effort has been made to help the visitor get about by bus. The main bus station in Manvers Street has clearly marked bays and a helpful information desk to avoid any embarrassing mistakes. Most tickets should be purchased from the driver on the bus and he will be happy to notify you when you reach your destination. In addition, Badgerline also runs a 'purple bus' service which follows many of the popular routes. This service allows easy access for wheelchairs and buggies and the bus is cleaned every hour. Buses in Bath offer a cheaper alternative to taxis and trains. All buses departing from Bath Bus Station are non-smoking.
