The main companies that operate in Cardiff are First Great Western, Virgin Trains, Wales and West and the local Valley Lines service. London to Cardiff takes roughly two hours on the InterCity service, with trains running at least once an hour. For getting about within Cardiff, the Valley Lines trains run a regular service to the main outlying areas of Cardiff and on into the South Wales valleys. When changing trains at Cardiff central, it is advisable to leave ten minutes' connection time. When traveling between major cities, it is often cheaper to book in advance. The National Rail enquiries line will accept telephone bookings by credit card.
