The Local Authority funded Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive runs a comprehensive range of bus services within Tyne and Wear under the Nexus banner. These are complemented by services run by a number of private companies, which also run long distance services into Durham, North Yorkshire, and Northumberland. The city is on the National Express network linking it with nationwide, and Europewide services. Buses link with Metro and local/national rail services at a number of points. For local journeys minimum fares differ from company to company, but start at around £0.50. Within Tyne and Wear children under 14 pay a flat rate fare of £0.25 for any single journey. Transfare tickets can be bought for journeys involving both bus and Metro or local rail services. Season tickets are available on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. Rover tickets allowing unlimited travel within specific areas (e.g. within Tyne and Wear, or within Nortumberland) for a single day are also available.
