The government’s VITRAN bus service is unreliable. You may wait an hour or more for a bus to arrive, but a trip gives you a good way to meet local residents on their grounds. It is also an inexpensive way to tour the island. Air conditioned buses fan out from Charlotte Amalie. A change in Sugar Estate is necessary for points east. Wait for the buses at the spots marked with VITRAN signs. Fares run USD1 for trips to distant locations and USD75 cents for city trips. No credit cards accepted.
