The airport is small with no major services aside from car rental agencies, one convenience store, one gift shop and a money exchange booth offering terrible rates. There is no place to store luggage. Since this is an island and few people bring their car to the airport, parking is limited. Most spots are taken up by car rentals and official business. There is no overnight parking or security offered. Taxis are not allowed into the airport to pickup incoming passengers. Private cars are also discouraged from entering the grounds. The only transportation is small passenger vans that seat up to eight people. Most travel agents will include hotel transfer with your package. If your transportation has not been arranged then you must purchase a ticket from the booth just inside the main doors. The cost of the ticker depends on where you are staying so you must know the address of your hotel, condo or private home. Outside there will be someone to direct you to the correct van. Be sure to present your ticket to the driver. You can also hire a private van to avoid waiting for other passengers. This will be more expensive. Taxis are allowed to drop off passengers, so leaving Cozumel is easier. The Cozumel airport has only one terminal and is not considered a major international airport. Any connections that need to be made will be to the larger airport in Cancun on the mainland. The airport does not have a main restaurant and offers only light snacks. During low season (April to November), there are few direct flights to the island. Most airlines fly directly to Cancun International Airport where you will go through immigration and customs before taking a short connecting flight to Cozumel. Outgoing flights, unless otherwise indicated, will also have a stopover in Cancun. This can add a couple of hours to your flight both ways since stopovers in Cancun can be lengthy.
