Pound sterling notes are available in the following denominations: £50, £20, £10, £5. Coins are available in £2, £1, 50p, 20p, 10p, 5p, 2p, 1p. General bank opening times are Monday-Friday, 9a to 5p, and most banks also open on Saturdays. All cash travellers' cheques and offer currency exchange with service charges typically around 1.5 percent. Many banks have closed outlying branches so a trip to the city centre may be necessary. There are, however, cashpoint machines located throughout the city and all but the smallest hotels, shops and restaurants accept credit cards. In addition, the larger supermarkets allow you to withdraw cash at the till when paying for goods with a credit or debit card.
