If you require non-emergency medical treatment there are a number of ways of finding a doctor. If you are staying in a hotel, it may have an arrangement with a local doctor. If you are staying with private UK citizens their doctor may see you. Alternatively you can obtain the phone numbers of doctors from yellow pages, or from the operator on 192. For minor ailments the NHS Direct Helpline on 0845 4647 is staffed by qualified medical people who can give you reassurance or direct you to seek further treatment. Emergency treatment is always free. EC citizens can get free treatment for any conditions that have arisen during their visit. In all other cases treatment will have to be paid for or covered by insurance.
