The island’s only hospital provides emergency and scheduled care, including cardiology treatment and decompression of injured divers in its hyperbaric chamber. Board-certified doctors staff the emergency room 24 hours daily. While the treatment meets stateside standards, there are occasional supply shortages. The hospital has an extensive array of specialists, but if you require more care than they can provide, a helicopter can whisk you to Puerto Rico for treatment or an air ambulance can fly you to the United States mainland.
