In the UK, all accident and emergency treatment is free. Follow-on treatment is free to citizens of the EU, Iceland, Norway and Leichtenstein, and some other countries, including Australia and New Zealand, have a reciprocal agreement for free treatment within the UK. Prescription costs start at £6 and must be paid in all cases. Apart from the above, full medical costs must be borne by the patient, so appropriate insurance is strongly advised. Cardiff's Accident and Emergency Department is part of the University Hospital of Wales at Heath Park. In cases of emergency, phone 999 and ask for the ambulance service.
